Our meeting is sponsored by Moser Consulting, a leading consulting partner in Indianapolis area.

Agenda:

  • 1:00 – 1:30 PM – Introductions & Voting
  • 1:30 – 2:30 PM – Advancing the Delivery of Data & Analytic products; Shaun McAdams and Warren Sifre, Moser Consulting
    • Two of Moser's leaders in the Data and Analytics division will share their foundational concepts for building processes that promote advancing an organization's data and analytics strategy. Attendees will learn philosophies and methodologies upon which those responsible for, or participating in, D&A can rely. It sets the vision and mission for these types of teams, allows for integration of human centered design, automation, workflow management, collaboration and focuses on value-driven strategy. Beyond the concepts, the presenters will share an implementation of these principles for a client as an example, which was recently referenced in the CIO magazine.
  • 2:30 – 2:40 PM – Break
  • 2:40 – 3:40 PM – Covid-19 Data Quality Case Study; Michael Scofield, Asst. Professor, Loma Linda University
    • Michael Scofield, M.B.A. is an Assistant Professor at Loma Linda University.  He is a frequent speaker and author in topics of data management, data quality, data visualization, and data warehousing.  He has spoken in over 27 states, Canada, Australia, and the U.K.  Audiences have included 24 DAMA chapters, 5 TDWI chapters, 14 ASQ sections and many accounting professional organizations.  He also guest-lectures at several universities.
    • The Covid-19 pandemic raises important questions about public health policy, and requires consistent and trusted data to aid in the discussion. To that end, we need to understand the data-to-information supply chain.

    • This presentation will begin with an introduction to the basic concepts—what a virus is, how it invades the human cell, what antibodies are and how they work.  The life cycle of a Covid-19-induced illness has many events whose data points would be very useful for predicting risk.   What metrics demonstrate the reality of the infections? Why Covid testing is not precisely binary (as much as many people want it to be).  Another major issue undermining confidence in data is comorbidity.

The Covid “long haul” symptoms present a new dilemma for gathering data and storage in the electronic medical records database; will we allow data entry not done by a medical professional?  The CDC’s Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System (VAERS) presents data quality problems in crowd-sourcing, and allowing selective mining and misinterpretation of the raw data.

Finally, we will look at the politicization of the data, and how the number have been (occasionally) “cooked” to convey misinformation about the infections.

  • 3:40 – 4:00 PM – Wrap up & Prizes
